This virus human papillomavirus (HPV) is the virus that causes warts through infection. This virus triggers rapid skin cell growth leading to small, rough skin growths. This can occur in any part of the body. This infects the top layer of the skin, causing cells to multiply rapidly and produce a thick, hard growth at the site of infection. HPV is highly contagious and spreads through direct skin-to-skin contact or by touching objects that have been in contact with the virus, such as towels, razors, or shoes. The virus often enters through small cuts, scrapes, or hangnails, making damaged skin more susceptible. They appear in specific locations, and some people are more prone to developing them than others.
